Laura C. Bingham

Laura C. BinghamLaura Bingham's career blends interests in public policy, leadership, higher education, strategic thinking, institutional relevance and resilience, and board governance for business and nonprofit missions. An undergraduate of Peace College and of UNC Chapel Hill with a graduate degree in philanthropic studies from Indiana University, Bingham concluded in 2010 serving 12 years as president of Peace.

Prior to Peace, Bingham was president of the Fort Sanders Foundation and senior VP of philanthropy for Covenant Health in Tennessee and served as VP of external relations for Hollins College in Virginia. A North Carolina native, early in her career she worked in Governor Hunt's administration and served as policy director for Lt. Governor Bob Jordan, and later for the Duke Cancer Center where she co-led the statewide campaign for insurance coverage of screening tests for women's cancers.

Among current civic and business endeavors, Bingham is an independent trustee of the mutual fund complex (The Sterling Funds), serves on the Board of Duke Raleigh Hospital, and is immediate past chair of Leadership North Carolina. She received the Triangle Business Journal's 2009 Lifetime Achievement and was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine upon her retirement from Peace College. Her husband Warren is an avocational scholar of President Washington's Southern Tour of 1791 with a book on the topic to be published in 2011.
