Teachers and Childcare Providers “What Television Can (and Can’t) Do to Promote Early Literacy Development!” Not all TV is good for children, but research findings taken from the article “What Television Can (and Can’t) Do to Promote Early Literacy Development” has shown that some PBS programs such as Reading Rainbow (Wood & Duke 1997), Sesame Street and Between The Lions include positive messages about literacy development. These findings reinforce the educational philosophy of UNC-TV: a learning triangle philosophy, which is Reading with children, viewing UNC-TV-rich broadcasts and doing activities related to a specific theme, thus Read, View, and Do.
