Multiple Intelligences and Learning Styles

Dr. Howard Gardner, professor of education at Harvard University, developed the theory of multiple intelligences in 1983. It suggests that the traditional notion of intelligence, based on I.Q. testing, is far too limited. Instead, Dr. Gardner proposed eight different intelligences to account for a broader range of human potential in children and adults. These intelligences are:

  • Linguistic intelligence ("word smart"):
  • Logical-mathematical intelligence ("number/reasoning smart")
  • Spatial intelligence ("picture smart")
  • Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence ("body smart")
  • Musical intelligence ("music smart")
  • Interpersonal intelligence ("people smart")
  • Intrapersonal intelligence ("self smart")
  • Naturalist intelligence ("nature smart")

This workshop utilizes video clips from TV411, research based resources and hands-on activities to introduce the participant to importance of understanding the importance and practical application of multiple intelligences and learning styles within a classroom setting or via distance education.

*Workshops are adapted to audience needs in each of the areas listed above for distance learning administrators and faculties as well as students and community based organizations.
