Not all TV is good for children, but research findings taken from the article “What Television Can (and Can’t) Do to Promote Early Literacy Development” has shown that some PBS programs such as Reading Rainbow (Wood & Duke 1997), Sesame Street and Between The Lions include positive messages about literacy development. These findings reinforce the educational philosophy of UNC-TV: a learning triangle philosophy, which is Reading with children, viewing UNC-TV-rich broadcasts and doing activities related to a specific theme, thus Read, View, and Do. 9000 FREE Early Educator Certifications Available 9000 FREE Early Educator Certifications Available
The NC Institute for Early Childhood Professional Development (Institute) has certified just over 6,500 Early Educators thanks to funding from our various partners, including the Division of Child Development (DCD). DCD is now funding a new opportunity to expand the Early Educator Certification (EEC) system and provide free certification to 9,000 additional applicants! Spread the word!

UNC-TV's Ready To Learn for teachers and childcare providers is an unprecedented combination of services, including the full line-up of PBS children's series--the quality educational, nonviolent, noncommercial programming that parents have trusted for two generations; specially-produced "program break" segments delivering educational messages; and a variety of outreach services and materials for parents, teachers, and other caregivers.
