Malinda Maynor Lowery ’02 (M.A., ’05
Ph.D.), assistant professor of history at
UNC. A native of Robeson County, Lowery
received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard, her master’s from Stanford
and a master’s and doctorate from UNC.
Her book, Lumbee Indians in the Jim Crow South: Race,
Identity, and the Making of a Nation, was published by UNC Press in
2010. She has published articles about American Indian migration and
identity, school desegregation, and religious music.
