Looking at what D.G. Martin has accomplished makes me wonder what hehasn'tcrossed off his personal to-do list. Tour with a rock band? Join a circus? Act in a movie? Or has he done those things, too? Look at what he's already checked off the list.
Martin is a former Green Beret, a former Davidson College basketball player and graduate, a Yale-educated lawyer, a university administrator and a columnist, and he is the host of a long-running TV show. Martin has campaigned for public office a couple of times, including a Democratic primary run for the U.S. Senate against John Edwards. He's also a husband and a father.
But he is most widely recognized now as the host of UNC-TV's "North Carolina Bookwatch." In that role - and as a columnist in newspapers - Martin keeps book lovers informed about the most talented writers among the South's contemporary authors.
He's been an author himself. In "Interstate Eateries," Martin made sure travelers in North Carolina were in-the-know about the best places to stop and eat.
Soon, Martin will be back on the road. He will visit Fayetteville on Oct. 11 to speak at the Headquarters Library. His 7 p.m. appearance is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
The show airs at 9:30 p.m. Fridays and again at 5 p.m. Sundays. |
