Pops in the Park
UNC-TV, in cooperation with WRAL, presents the annual Pops in the Park concert. This Labor Day tradition, scheduled at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Cary's Regency Park, is a must-see for fans of North Carolina's symphony and the state's own homegrown talent.
In 2007, popular singer/songwriter Tift Merritt joins the North Carolina Symphony on stage for the first time. The longtime Tar Heel performs several of her songs with the Symphony, as well as premieres the title song from her upcoming release Another Country. Other music includes favorites from Bernstein, Copland, Grofé, Gershwin and more. Following Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, the concert concludes with a fireworks-fueled accompaniment to John Philip Sousa's patriotic favorite The Stars & Stripes Forever.
