Pottery Live! With Ben Owen III
"I still draw upon many of the shapes and forms that my grandfather and dad did."
—Ben Owen III
Ben Owen III started learning the art of pottery at the age of eight. After mentoring with his grandfather and his father, Ben Owen III studied color, design, carving and woodworking at East Carolina University. As one of the first Seagrove potters to learn the art both in a traditional setting and from formal training—including studies in Japan, Europe and Australia—Owen still values his Seagrove roots and home base.
For a firsthand look at this hands-on art form famous in the Tar Heel state, join Ben Owen III—live—from his Seagrove studio. UNC-TV's Shannon Vickery joins this renowned artisan as he creates wondrous works of art while sharing the history behind this generations-old pottery craft in his family and the Seagrove community.
