Fleming, Freelon Appointed to UNC-TV Board of Trustees
Governor Beverly Perdue has appointed Philip G. Freelon of Durham and reappointed George H. Fleming of Raleigh to four-year terms on the UNC-TV Board of Trustees. The terms will run through May 31, 2014.
Mr. Freelon is founder and president of The Freelon Group, Architects, based in Research Triangle Park, a position he has held since 1990. Prior to that, he worked for architecture firms in North Carolina and Texas.
Mr. Freelon holds an undergraduate degree from the North Carolina State University School of Architecture and Planning and a masters of architecture degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of numerous professional and civic organizations, including service as a grant review panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts and as a peer professional for the General Services Administration. Last year The Freelon Group was selected as lead architect on the $500 million National Museum of African American History and Culture, an arm of the Smithsonian Institution planned for completion by 2015 adjacent to the Washington Monument.
Mr. Freelon has been a visiting lecturer and adjunct faculty member at both M.I.T. and at North Carolina State, as well as a visiting architecture critic for a host of colleges and universities. He has also received numerous honors and awards for his professional accomplishments and contributions to civic and cultural organizations.
Mr. Fleming will be serving his first full term on the UNC-TV Board of Trustees, having been initially appointed in 2008. Since 2000 he has been president and CEO of Telerent Leasing Corporation, one of the Top 100 equipment financing companies in the U.S. He is also founder and president of TeleHealth Services, the nation’s leading provider of hospital television and patient educational video systems. TeleHealth Services provides a wide array of entertainment and educational programming and communications technology to healthcare providers including Kaiser Permanente, HCA, New York Presbyterian, and many North Carolina hospitals, among its more than 2000 clients.
Mr. Fleming has masters degrees in business administration from UNC-Chapel Hill and in public affairs from Princeton University, and his undergraduate degree from Millsaps College.

UNC-TV is North Carolina’s statewide public television network, broadcasting four channels of programming, including UNC-EX, The Explorer Channel, UNC-KD, featuring all children's programs, and cable-only channel UNC-MX, an eclectic mix of public television content.
