The Golden Leaf Foundation announced this week that the Board of Directors for the Foundation have approved a grant for UNC-TV's North Carolina Rising Project Phase II in the amount of $112,000.  With this grant, UNC-TV will produce a series of 24 features on North Carolina Now, then compile them into two compilation programs, each 60-minutes in length, all examining the successful revitalization of rural communities in North Carolina as the transition continues from a tobacco-based agricultural economy. 

UNC-TV will also continue to add content to our comprehensive North Carolina Rising Web site and generate more content from rural residents themselves.  We will also rebroadcast feature stories from the original North Carolina Rising series so that each week on North Carolina Now for an entire year there will be a North Carolina Rising story on the program.  We have identified Mondays as North Carolina Rising night on NC Now with a North Carolina Rising feature story broadcast each Monday night.  This effort will begin in August. 

With the North Carolina Rising Project Phase II, UNC-TV will continue to identify and highlight the success stories of rural areas that once thrived on tobacco but now are effectively transitioning to join the new global economy.  The goal of this project is to build on the success of North Carolina Rising and to use UNC-TV's statewide reach to raise awareness of revitalization success stories in one area of the state so they might be replicated in others.

UNC-TV is North Carolina's statewide public television network, now providing multicasting services UNC-TV, UNC-EX, UNC-KD and UNC-MX.
