New Season Promises Great Gardening Tips and College Credit for Hometown Horticulturalists!
UNC-TV’s In the Garden with Bryce Lane Returns Saturday, August 19 at Noon
UNC-TV’s In the Garden with Bryce Lane, a half-hour, weekly educational program hosted by North Carolina State University’s Bryce Lane, introduces viewers to all of the science behind successful gardening. The popular series is offered as a college course in three, 26-week seasons through the N.C. State University's continuing education program. During each insightful season, viewers learn the fundamentals of backyard horticulture, including plant identification and maintenance, home landscaping techniques, and even insect information and irrigation ideas that any prospective green thumb can use in and around their home.
Beginning Saturday, August 19 at noon, Bryce Lane is back for an all-new fourth season of In the Garden, full of the latesttechniques, tips and creative examples to sow the seeds of great gardening innovation. In the process, Lane gives viewers an insider’s look at the nationally-acclaimed J.C. Raulston Arboretum, full of the most diverse collection of landscape plants in the southeastern United States, as well as various gardening centers across the state and the gardening guru’s very own backyard!
In each episode, the North Carolina State horticulturalist also highlights an indigenous “Plant of the Week,” explaining how to reap the rewards of this particular plant in our local landscapes.
At the official In the Garden website, located at www.unctv.org/inthegarden, viewers can suggest future “Plants of the Week,” and may receive a free In the Garden t-shirt if their plant is featured in an upcoming episode.
Besides the basics of plant identification and maintenance, this season will also introduce viewers to wise ways to use water in the garden; the best tactics to attract butterflies to your botanicals; and culminates with advice on creating special seasonal gardens, with trips to such lush locales as the Cape Fear Botanical Garden and the Biltmore Estate.
Unlike other local gardening series, In the Garden with Bryce Lane provides college credit for viewers who register through North Carolina State University. This season, UNC-TV and N.C. State once again partner to offer the series as a telecourse. Viewers interested in registering for this unique education can do so through DELTA at http://distance.ncsu.edu.
