How does UNC-TV benefit from the vehicle donation program?

With growing concern regarding some vehicle donation programs - specifically who receives what percentage of the funds and the new tax laws that affect your donations' tax deductibility - UNC-TV wants to make sure that you understand how our vehicle donation program works. We want to make sure that you are confident in donating your vehicle to UNC-TV.

UNC-TV has partnered with Vehicles for Charity to provide you with an additional way to support your statewide television network. Your car, truck, boat or any other unwanted vehicle is picked up free of charge. You will be provided with a receipt of your donation for tax purposes. The process is easy, free and takes only a few minutes!

With the ever-increasing costs of programming and constant need for additional funding, UNC-TV investigated car donation programs as one way to raise funds. We carefully researched vendors and chose Vehicles for Charity, a third-party company, to be our partner. We chose Vehicles for Charity because we are confident that their mission aligns with our own, and that your donations would benefit non-profit organizations rather than a for-profit company.

Vehicles for Charity grew out of the vehicle donation program for the Metropolitan Association for Retarded Citizens of Colorado. In order to increase donations to their organization, they began working with a number of non-profit organizations in their area, and have since branched out and are now working with many public television stations across the country.

When you donate your vehicle to UNC-TV, we receive 70 percent of the net proceeds; the other 30 percent goes to the Metropolitan Association for Retarded Citizens of Colorado via Vehicles for Charity. So the entire net proceeds of your donation benefit non-profit organizations, with the largest portion coming to us.
