Ann Ellis

Hometown:
Bath, NC

Ann Ellis was born in Dayton, KY on April 20th, 1925, the youngest of 3 sisters.

Ellis joined the marching band in highschool & never looked back. She quit high school to follow her passion....swing jazz. She became a professional jazz drummer...Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Duke Ellington were her staples. Ellis played in several bands including "Mae Jean" a 12 piece all-girls band. She toured most of continental America, Mexico, & Canada during WWII, playing USO's, military bases, hotel lobbies, rodeo's, etc.

Ellis met her future husband, Scott John Ellis, on a blind date at a Purdue vs. Notre Dame football game... and the rest is history. Scott John Ellis was a navy sailor stationed on the USS California battlewagon. The California had been partially sunk at Pearl Harbor but was salvaged & re-commissioned. The California was just off of Japan when the 2 atom bombs were dropped.

Ann and Scott John Ellis were both excellent jitterbuggers. In fact Ann Ellis still claims she married him because he was the best dancer on his boat. Four kids later, Six grandchildren, Four great-grandchildren (and 1 on the way) later...Ann Ellis is still "jamming."
