Dempsey E. Benton
 Dempsey E. Benton, Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, brings 38 years of public service to the position, which he began September 5, 2007.
He provided leadership to three cities in North Carolina and to the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources where he served as chief deputy secretary from January 2001 until February 2007. Earlier he served as Raleigh city manager from 1983-2000, assistant manager from 1974-1983, city manager for Elizabeth City, and finance director for Rocky Mount. |
