Why did you join a care team?
Play Video: LOW Speed - HIGH Speed

I had no idea about HIV and AIDS, and you know what you do when you're afraid of something? You conquer your fear. So I just thought I'll join the team, and I'll learn more about the disease, and it just mushroomed. It just went into wow, I can make a change. I can maybe make a difference. That's my goal, and that's my team's goal, making a difference in the quality of the time that's left.

I know I can make a difference. I know I can. And I know that with each partner they're different, and I'm learning. I'm learning a lot. I didn't realize how sheltered I was until I met how diverse my partners have been. I've lived a pretty sheltered life, and that's what keeps me.. they're all different.. they're all extremely different, and they have all stretched me. I've had to get out of my comfort zone. I've had to stretch far more than I ever thought I would ever have to.

What do you want your care partners and other people to know about this work?
Play Video: LOW Speed - HIGH Speed

That's a very important point, not so much that I care about them but we let them know God loves them, that this isn't a curse or a disease brought on by God. That they are loved. If they take care of themselves and take their medicine, if they know somebody else cares, you can't imagine the difference that makes for someone that doesn't want to be on meds, but if you tell them I care, I'll help you, I'll help you with your medicine regimen, I'll be there for you, just knowing someone else cares, that makes a tremendous difference.

I think having a shoulder to lean on that makes a tremendous difference, knowing that you're not going to go through this alone. It would make a difference for me.
