A "Train the Trainer" workshop focusing on how to facilitate small group discussions.

A workshop to train community leaders in the easy techniques of successful small group facilitation using video as a tool to launch meaningful dialogue.  Going beyond the conventional methods, these materials are designed to bring diverse groups of participants together to share different perspectives and cultural experiences.  It is our intention to provide the participants of this session with a constructive framework for discussing potentially sensitive themes in a safe and non-judgmental experiential learning environment.

Television is a tool.  People watch it and talk about what they have seen.

Strong, interesting and relevant programs are at the heart of this training. Character-driven television programs can create a spine for sustained community dialogue. The program will illustrate the positive role television can play in public life and that can be used to pursue measurable, ongoing programs.

Today, UNC-TV's Outreach Department sponsors the screenings of programs that air on our eleven stations statewide public television network.  These screenings require process and citizen involvement techniques.  To meet demand for facilitators on a statewide basis, a program has been developed to train and support a cadre of citizen facilitators who work with the community non-profit organizations and agencies that request a skilled neutral facilitator.

Through a grant from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, UNC-TV will be offering this training FREE to community group leaders.  Each three hour session will have a maximum of 25 participants.
