Current Season
On July 5, 1910, the National Religious Training School and Chautauqua for the Colored Race--which would later become North Carolina Central University--welcomed its first generation of students. The school was chartered by a black pharmacist named James Edward Shepard and went on to become a comprehensive state university, offering more than 100 fields of study and graduate degrees in nearly 40 disciplines.
