In this segment, Bob recounts the formation of what later became known as the “Chittlin Club.” The club began when Kerr Scott, then Commissioner of Agriculture, and Ralph Stephens, one of the division heads in the Department of Agriculture, began asking some of their friends to go to Garner’s Grill to eat chitterlings. Bob explains the history of the club.
Kerr Scott made his decision to run for governor after carefully weighing the possibility of running for Senate. As governor, he relied on his agricultural background to help him find ways to help the rural areas of the state. Bob recalls his father’s roundabout way of reaching his decision to run for governor and his experience in office in this clip.
