Scott’s Continued Legacy: Issues

Before the 1980 election, Governor Jim Hunt succeeded in passing a law that Scott had tried to pass through the Legislature during his term and failed—allowing the governor to run for 2 consecutive 4-year terms. To test whether a governor would be reelected for a second term, Scott ran against incumbent Governor Hunt in the 1980 Democratic primary. Scott explains his reasons for running against him and the results of that election.

Within a year of taking the position as president of the North Carolina Community College system, Governor Scott was credited with bringing more money to the system than they had had before. In this clip, he explains how he worked at getting the presidents of all of the community colleges to communicate with each other and to unify.
