| When Chambers took the office of chancellor at North Carolina Central University, he was unprepared for the conditions that he would find there. He wanted to make the university competitive with the other state universities, a task that would be daunting based on some of the attitudes that still lingered. Chambers describes his goals for North Carolina Central and how he planned to accomplish them.
