In the winter of 1944, Hitler unleashed thousands of men and tanks into Belgium in a last fateful attempt to break the Allied forces arrayed against him. The battle that followed has become known, in the annals of history, as the Battle of the Bulge. Terry Sanford was wounded during the battle and later received a Purple Heart.
