locations across the state are developing conservation-based
affordable housing. The name essentially gives it away but the
idea is that homeowners don’t need to be saddled with the
choice between fiscal responsibility and environmental conservation,

 In his book On the Grid, Scott Huler demystifies many of the systems of infrastructure that sustain our way of life, starting from his own quarter acre
in North Carolina and as far as Ancient Rome. Following a UNC-TV interview the author from the "Periodic Tables" Science Cafe in Durham, NC, he answered audience questions on a variety of sustainability subjects, from the smart grid to electric cars to the true cost of bottled water.
BLUEPRINT AMERICA is a precedent-setting multi-platform initiative that
harnesses the power of public broadcasting’s most prestigious programs,
primetime documentaries, community and educational outreach, and the web to
shine an unyielding spotlight on one of the most critical issues facing our
country, yet one that has been under-reported by the traditional news media:
America’s decaying and neglected infrastructure. As part of this project, UNC-TV has created a unique portfolio of resources on this critical subject, including:

UNC-TV produced a half-hour program on transportation in North Carolina with an in-depth examination of the power of rail to provide equal access to all North Carolinians
PHASE I: Designs for the Future:
UNC-TV produced a half-hour program on North Carolina’s most pressing infrastructure needs and their possible solutions.
Webinars:
Web conferences are a proven method for reaching out to communities on a variety of topics. UNC-TV hosted two community forums in association with the Institute for Emerging Issues Forum to evaluate issues affecting the "blueprint" of our state.
Community Engagement:
UNC-TV presented two science cafes in partnership with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh and the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science in Durham.
Exclusive Online Coverage:
Unprecedented online access to interviews with key constituents from the recent North Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations' NC Sustainable Communities Summit.
