J. Don Coleman is a native of Rockingham and has resided with his family in Hickory for the past 43 years. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He and his wife Toni have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Mr. Coleman retired in January of 2012 as president and CEO of Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company where he spent 40 years of his working career. He currently serves as president/secretary of the Upholstery Furniture Action Council (UFAC) based in High Point. Additionally, he is a consultant for business development, primarily focusing on privately held companies.
Mr. Coleman has been involved in a number of cultural and educational boards, including the Board of Trustees at Lenoir Rhyne University, the Catawba Valley Community College Foundation Board, the American Home Furnishings Association Foundation Board, the American Furniture Hall of Fame Board, the SALT Block (Science, Arts, Literature Together) Foundation Board, the Frye Regional Hospital Board, the North Carolina Community Foundation Board, and the Western Region Wells Fargo Advisory Board. He also is the founding conductor of the Hickory Choral Society, which he has conducted for 35 years.
