Author Ben Fountain was raised in North Carolina, went to college at UNC Chapel Hill and then Law School at Duke University. He then moved to Texas to practice law along with his wife. In 2007 he wrote a collection of short stories under the title "Brief Encounters with Che Guevara" for which he won the PEN/Hemingway Award. His first novel is Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, a story of a war hero coming to grips with the turmoil on the battlefield, at home, and in his mind.
About Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk tells the story of an Iraq War hero coming home a hero of the war. After a savage battle with Iraqi insurgents a the battle of "Al-Ansakar Canal", Billy and the other survivors of Bravo Squad are brought home for a "Victory Tour" designed to rejuvenate American support for the war. During his respite from the war, Billy will face difficult truths about himself, his family, his country and his fellow soldiers.
