Experience the return of the world's most charismatic marine creatures—LIVE—from California's Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary! Big Blue Live is a live television and online event celebrating some of the world’s most amazing marine creatures converging off California’s coast. The PBS and BBC co-production airs live on television and online over three nights, August 31-September 2, at 8-9PM.

Join UNC-TV for an invigorating slice of television history as PBS partners with the BBC for public television’s first live natural history event—BIG BLUE LIVE—Monday, August 31, through Wednesday, September 2, at 8 PM (encores on UNC-TV, at 2AM, and on UNC-EX, at 11PM). This blockbuster, from California’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, celebrates the return of formerly endangered water-based wildlife. The renewal of the bay’s once-beleaguered ecosystem earns accolades as one of the world’s most successful conservation projects.

Go on location with live, underwater coverage for the anticipated once-a-year return of formerly endangered whales, sea otters, sea lions, great white sharks, brown pelicans and other now-flourishing wildlife to Monterey Bay. Hosts include Dr. M. Sanjayan, the host of EARTH, A New Wild, Liz Bonnin, a science broadcast journalist based in the UK, and Dr. Joy Reidenberg, host of PBS’s Sex in the Wild program.

And enjoy special North Carolina Science Now programming on North Carolina Now, Wednesday, September 2, at 7:30PM, leading into the night’s BIG BLUE LIVE grand finale.
