The most dramatic economic downturn since The Great Depression is changing the quality-of-life for millions of Americans. Increasing fuel costs, joblessness, and limited capital for building small business are but a few but very significant challenges, and each is affected by transportation. In the same way that rail transformed North Carolinians’ quality-of-life in the 1800's, today enhanced 21st century engineering and technology, intermodal strategies, and centuries of lessons-learned stand to revitalize rail’s life-changing potential. Blueprint North Carolina: Planning for the Future takes a look at the future impact of transportation planning in our state with a focus on the power of rail to provide equal access and benefit for all North Carolinians in an environmentally sustainable way.
