Since launching their performing career 15 years ago, the popularity of these four brothers, sister and father keeps growing. The band members include John Cockman Sr. on guitar, Caroline Cockman Fisher on lead vocals, John Cockman Jr. on fiddle and vocals, Billy Cockman on banjo and vocals, David Cockman on bass and vocals and Ben Cockman on mandolin and vocals. Last year they performed more than 130 dates and their sweet sounds continue to win fans far and wide.
Repeated featured appearances on UNC-TV, North Carolina's 11-station public television network, have contributed to the group's growing reputation throughout its North Carolina home base-along with parts of Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina. UNC-TV has featured The Cockman Family on seven one-hour The Arthur Smith Show: Now & Then public television specials, Carolina Christmas and George Beverly Shea & Friends . In 2003 the talented members of The Cockman Family star in an all-new, hour-long holiday program entitled A Cockman Family Christmas: Maker of the Stars .
Joining the group on the homey set, designed by John Cockman Sr., in UNC-TV's "Studio A" is John Sr.'s wife and Cockman Family matriarch Jane Cockman along with group members' spouses and children. A Cockman Family Christmas: Maker of the Stars features a mix of well-known holiday favorites and beautiful original compositions-including Joy to the World , Away in a Manger , Christmas Time at Home , O Holy Night , Maker of the Stars, In the Stable , Go Tell It on the Mountain , Count Your Blessings , Angels Unaware , Silent Night , There's a Light , Beautiful Star of Bethlehem , Christmas Lullaby and Bethlehem, Bethlehem . The North Carolina Arts Council singled the group out for inclusion in its selective North Carolina Touring and Resident Artist Directory. In 2002 The Cockman Family won the Mocksville Fiddlers Convention first-ever Lion Bill Edwards Memorial Award for "Outstanding Contribution to Old-Time and Bluegrass Music." I n addition to several other award nominations, including the Country Gospel Music Association (CGMA) and the International Country Gospel Music Association (ICGMA), USA Today Weekend and American Greetings Cards named The Cockman Family one of "The 12 Most Creative Families in America. The Cockman Family concert video airs regularly throughout North America on Southern Entertainment Television (SET) and local stations from coast to coast.
