UNC-TV premiered North Carolina Beautiful with Artist William Mangum as part of Winterfest 2011.
The documentary is based on Mangum's most recent book - North Carolina Beautiful - and pays tribute to the scenic and historic places throughout the state. The program also highlights the importance of conservation and preservation as a way to ensure North Carolina's splendor remains available for future generations.
Mangum will be live in the UNC-TV studios during the broadcast to discuss the project and his art. Viewers will have the opportunity to support UNC-TV with their contributions and take advantage of various thank you gifts associated with the program.
More behind the scenes...Mangum partnered with six preservation and conservation agencies in North Carolina Beautiful, while encouraging readers to explore, celebrate and protect the state through educational vignettes and more than 140 original pieces of artwork in the book. With the generous support of Stearns Financial Services Group of Greensboro, UNC-TV and the artist collaborated on the creation of the documentary, which is inspired by the book.
This is the second collaboration between UNC-TV and William Mangum, following the earlier production of Carolina Preserves, based on another book by the artist.
