UNC-TV Will Host Live Debate With Faison, Etheridge and Dalton
UNC-TV will broadcast a live debate among North Carolina State Representative Bill Faison of Durham, Lieutenant Governor Walter Dalton of Rutherfordton, and former Congressman Bob Etheridge of Lillington, the three major candidates for the Democratic Party's gubernatorial nomination, on Tuesday, April 17 at 8:00 p.m. UNC-TV Director of Production Shannon Vickery made the announcement at a Board of Trustees meeting at the statewide public television network's Research Triangle Park studios held today. The debate will be an hour in length, will originate in the network's studios, and will focus on issues facing voters across the state.
The debate will begin with opening statements by the candidates, who will then be given equal opportunity to answer questions about the issues facing North Carolina. The order of responses will be rotated among the candidates. Candidates will also be given time at the end of the debate for a brief closing statement. Kelly McCullen, senior correspondent and host of North Carolina Now Legislative Week in Review will moderate the debate.
"UNC-TV is delighted to have the opportunity to bring this debate to our statewide audience," Vickery said in making the announcement. "We believe it will play an important role in informing North Carolina voters about the critical issues facing the state."
