The colonial past of Uruguay's capital Montevideo and lakeside resorts of Paraguay are highlighted.
Globe Trekker Holly Morris discovers two South American countries that may share a similar name but couldn't be more different. Beginning in Uruguay's capital Montevideo, Holly discovers its colonial Spanish history and charm. After trying the local cuisine, she travels down to the beach and gets a taste of the annual carnival festivities. She then drives along the coastline to Punta del Este and Cabo Polonio before heading north to Taquarembo to take part in the biggest gaucho festival in the world. Travelling on to Paraguay, Holly heads to its capital Asuncion to take in the sights and learn about its colonial and political past. She then visits the lakeside resorts of Areguá and San Bernardino before trekking to the Jesuit mission ruins in Trinidad. In the north, Holly finishes her journey visiting Paraguay's last surviving indigenous hunter gatherers at the Mbaracayú Nature Reserve.
