HART SQUARE, POEMS FOR EVERYONE
Travel just outside of Hickory and learn the history of Hart Square. Next, poet Amy Bagwell talks about creating The Wall Poems of Charlotte, a public art project.
In the 1960s, Dr. Robert Hart bought 200 acres just outside the Hickory city limits. Fast forward more than 30 years and what started as a wildlife preserve has evolved to Hart Square, an entire 19th century Carolina village and the largest collection of original historic log buildings in the country. Then, poet, artist, and teacher Amy Bagwell believes everyone deserves the chance to encounter poetry. This impulse inspired her to create The Wall Poems of Charlotte, a public art project dedicated to sharing North Carolinian poetry through murals on buildings and on newsracks. Experience the magic of Amy's vision in Poems for Everyone.
