Aiming for Excellence - Improving Student Engagement in 8th Grade E.L. A. - Teacher David Preto's classroom is visited by teacher evaluator Renee O'Leary. She suggests he work on engaging students by making lessons more active and communicating class goals more specifically. Watch him take her advice and put it into action. Students use live gps data provided by iditarod. com to calculate the racers' progress and predict their arrival times at the next checkpoint. New Teacher Survival Guide - The Formal Observation - A new chemistry teacher at Herricks High School in Long Island, New York, participates in a 3-step formal evaluation process. The process includes a pre-observation meeting, the formal observation, and a post-observation meeting. The department head, Karen Hughes, conducts the evaluation of Laura Gurick. During the pre-observation meeting, Laura shares the classroom dynamics and plans for the lesson. Karen explains the criteria for which she will be looking. During the post-observation meeting, Karen and Laura both share their perspective of the quality of the lesson helping Karen further reflect on her strengths and weaknesses.
