Regional Workshops
Three regional workshops were planned in the geographic east (Brunswick County), central (Randolph County) and western (Buncombe County) areas of the state and facilitated by Abraham Encinas, MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) graduate student at Greensboro College.
Three Regional Workshops
- The first took place in October as part of the National Rural Health Association area meeting at the Asheville Crowne Plaza and the group of health educators expressed appreciation for UNC-TV being involved in health awareness and information sharing.
- The second workshop was at the Randolph Latino Coalition in the Triad or central region of the state in November. and emphasized Latino family health, fitness and workplace safety.
- The third workshop was held at the Brunswick Educational Transition Center of Brunswick Community College on the coast in December and had a special emphasis on children and family health, fitness and safety.
In all three regional workshops, a Latino leader headed the partnering host agency who had well-developed community coalitions that helped with networking and promotion of the workshops. A total of 87 attendees representing 17 different agencies, coalitions and organizations participated and took back to their homes, agencies, schools or colleges the written and spoken information provided in both English and Spanish.
The project was funded in part by a grant from the National Center for Outreach (NCO) and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB.)
