Bridges Project
As adults we often read nonfiction texts to learn more about particular subjects in newspapers, recipes, and how-to books. We discover facts and ideas on a wide range of topics as we decipher the research of others. In order for children to develop the skills necessary to read and comprehend content area text, the early foundations or building blocks need to be put into place. Providing opportunities for young children to experience non-fiction texts with a caring adults who will model appropriate behaviors will assist children in developing these same skills as they mature and continue through the elementary school environment.
Participants will be introduced to a new program utilizing Reading Rainbow clips, a variety of books, handouts, multi-media materials, and hands-on activities that can be used with parents to build a bridge between home and school.
*Workshops are adapted to audience needs in each of the areas listed above for distance learning administrators and faculties as well as students and community based organizations.
