Examine the best ways to help students develop oral reading fluency through learning letters, letter-sound correspondence, letter-sound patterns, and high-frequency words. Topics and methods include principles that provide the foundation for No Child Left Behind policies. Study traditional versus contemporary perspectives on spelling instruction, then assess a student’s instructional level in spelling to set appropriate goals for that student. At the conclusion of the course, create a case study of a second grade speller.
