Ready To Learn Summer Institute 2
July 29, 2004 and July 30, 2004
Educators spent two days exploring ways to better meet the irreducible needs of North Carolina's children. Participating educators:
Learned the importance of teaching media literacy to children.
Explored developmentally appropriate practices regarding children's environmental health issues such as lead poisoning prevention
Incorporated literacy and math into the science curriculum through hands-on activities
Investigated the needs for healthy child development.
Looked at how using sign language can improve communication and stimulate learning in the classroom.
Count Down To Kindergarten
Playspace: A Child's First Museum, 400 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27603-1220
PLAYSPACE is a non-profit children's museum dedicated to the education and development of young children through play.
On August 3, 2004, UNC-TV joined Playspace in an effort to prepare students for a successful school year starting with a Countdown to Kindergarten series of hands-on learning activities.
Parents received important information and children were introduced to valuable learning experiences. Special guests included Arthur and Piggly Winks from Jakers who greeted the children.
