As part of the grant, the teachers from Learning Together received scholarships to take their students on a fieldtrip to the North Carolina Zoo, located in Asheboro, North Carolina.  The zoo is nationally recognized as one of the nation’s finest zoos.  It was the first American zoo designed, from its inception, around the natural habitat philosophy, presenting animals and plants in exhibits that closely resemble the habitats in which they would be found in the wild.  The teachers talk about some of the things that they will see at the zoo.  You too can also plan and inciting [ph] a trip to the zoo. 

F:
What do you think you will see at the zoo?

F:
A bunch of animals

F:
Polar bears.

F:
Polar bears.

F:
Lions.

F:
Lions.

F:
Monkeys.

F:
Monkeys. 

F:
Elephants.

F:
Tigers, giraffes. 

F:
Okay.  So, let’s do it this way.  We’re going to go down the line and let you each tell us something that you’re going to see at the zoo ___.

F:
Elephants.

F:
Tigers.

F:
Zebras.

F:
Monkeys.

F:
Lion.

F:
Polar bear.

F:
Bears.

F:
People.

M:
Rhinos. 

F:
Okay.  Do you think you will see insects at the zoo?

Group:
Yes.

F:
Do you think you will see snakes at the zoo?

Group:
Yes.

F:
Do you think you will see people at the zoo?

Groups:
Yes.

F:
Anything else that you think you will see at the zoo?

M:
Plants.

F:
Plants at the zoo.  What else?

F:
Monkeys. 

F:
Monkeys at the zoo.  Can you make a monkey noise?  [MAKES NOISE] [LAUGHTER] What else will you see at the zoo?

F:
Grass.

F:
Grass at the zoo.  Is anybody allergic to grass?

Group:
