Learning in Action Stand Up
Hines:
The participants will now do a variety of activities to stimulate physical motor, language, cognitive and social skills. Let’s watch our moving teachers.
F:
Now, we’re going to do our next activity. Stand up. Because you all should have known we’re not going to sit down. Put your chair under. Now, with this game, I’m going to ask you to move like an animal. And the way we’re going to do this is [LAUGHTER]. You are laughing because you never know what you might be, right? You’re afraid I’m going to have you on the floor, slithering like a snake. A snake. Well, I thought about that, but I thought y’all might tell me, “I’m not getting on that floor.” So, I want you now to act like a snake with your hand. Ready?
[INAUDIBLE COMMENTS]
F:
Now, act like a bunny—not bunny rabbit, but act like a kangaroo. Stop. What about a lion. Whole body. What about a tiger [LAUGHTER]. What about a giraffe. What about a bear. What about a bird. What about an owl. You guys are ___ [LAUGHTER]. I want you take your whole body and act like any animal that you want, and we—and none of us will know what you are doing. Are you ready? In your head, think of the animal. Now, act like any animal that you want. Go. Felicia, who are you?
F:
I’m an elephant.

I think this is a good activity. So, let’s do our next activity, which includes movement [OVERLAPPING COMMENTS]. Clap your hands, stomp your feet, shake your arms, then take a seat. And just pretend you’re taking a seat [LAUGHTER]. Rub your tummy, pat your head, find something yellow and find something red. Reach for the sky, wiggle your toes, stick out your tongue and touch your nose. Spread your feet, look upside down, make a silly face and act like a clown. Hop like a bunny, fly like a bird, quiet as a mouse now, don’t say a word. Clap your hands, stomp your feet, shake your arms, now take your seat. Sit down now [LAUGHTER]. Did you hear animals in that, the word animals?
[INAUDIBLE COMMENTS]
