Candidate Statement:

Jim Herman, a resident of Taylorsville, has announced his candidacy for the Alexander County School Board District 2 serving Taylorsville Voting Precincts 1-5. Herman has a background in business management operations, planning, and law enforcement. He plans to use his leadership skills, gained through work experience to ensure the pursuit of excellence and success in our school system.

As a candidate in District 2, Herman states, "I am running because there are crucial challenges facing the school board today in this time of economic crisis. More than ever before, the board members elected in 2010 must plan and carefully implement changes to ensure the safety of our children, teachers, and administrators. We must provide our school personnel with the training and resources to deal with the growing number of potential threats and violence impacting schools across our nation. Secondly, I believe we must have a financially-sustainable education model which provides the best education possible to our student population. Furthermore, we must work diligently to ensure that we can retain our frontline school personnel during this extremely difficult economy. Sacrificing the education of our children should never be the answer."
