Candidate Statement:

Brunswick County's citizens and business enterprise expect our government to be effective, open and aggressive in providing for a quality of life for all. To meet those expectations, we must control spending, minimize taxes, recruit high-skilled high-wage jobs, support common sense public safety initiatives and ensure a quality education system. Our families are facing uncertain financial futures and are working to reduce their expenditures and the government should do the same. Many families are driving cars with higher mileage longer and I will work to ensure that if the county buys a new vehicle it will be because it is a mandatory and not an extra wish. I believe that the annual budget should start at zero and should be developed with conservative principles.  As a Brunswick County Commissioner, my agenda would focus on seven key areas: "I am running hard to end tax and spend"

*Education: Support raising the charter school cap, build a world class vocational high school, and allocate local funding for the Home Schooled Students; Parents who pay taxes should have access to public tax dollars to assist with their children's education.

*Reduce spending and consolidate departments and efforts and implement Zero (0) Based Budgeting; Re-visit Property Re-evaluation process (to ensure more up-to date tax values); If citizens drive vehicles with over 200, 000 miles, so should government;

*Term Limits for commissioners and board appointees is the best way to keep government current and open;

*In the area of Economic development, I would work to develop and recruit High-Skilled High-Waged Jobs and create a more business friendly county;

*Utilize Community Based Organizations to meet the human service needs of citizens;

* We must improve roads, highways and safety by working with NC Department of  Transportation;

*Hold community information meetings and forums in the district.
