Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

I'm Maynard Taylor, Candidate for Re-election for Burke County Commissioner. I am one of 16 children born to Bertie Miller Taylor and Lester Taylor and a life-long resident of Burke County. My wife of 47 years is Shirley Shook Taylor. We have 4 children and they have given us 13 Grand Children so far. All four of our children attended and graduated from Burke County Schools.

My education includes Icard Elementary School, Hildebran High School, and Carolina School of Broadcasting.

Employment: Radio & TV DJ, Sales and management for 30 years, Cable TV Sales Manager for 4 years and the last eight years, jointly own (with my family) Tractor & Equipment Company located in Newton.

My Public Service record is well rounded. I was elected and served on School Board for six years, elected to County Commissioner for two terms or 8 years. I have served as an ASCS committee person, President of Burke County Cattlemen's Association, CSO Membership Committee @ Gardner Webb University, Member of Burke Economic Development Council and Past President of Better Business Bureau. Since being elected County Commissioner I have also served on the Parks and Recreation Board, Department of Social Services Board, The Environmental Affairs Board, Juvenile Board, Clean air & Water Board and Mental Health Board.

Church Positions elected-to or held include Sunday School Director for 15 years, deacon, teacher, Youth Leader, Nominating Committee, Finance Committee and choir member. I also served on several Associational committees and positions. (Hobbies and other interest include music (guitar), farming (cattle & hay), hunting, children and grand children, traveling, etc.)
