Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

I worked at the Caldwell County Sheriff's office from 1976-2003. I served as a reserve patrol officer, patrol officer, investigator, Captain of investigations and Sheriff 1990-2003. During my service as Sheriff, my office received three national awards from the National Association of County Commissioners in the areas of child abuse, domestic violence, and community betterment. I was employed with North Carolina Crime Control and Public Safety 2003-2010 serving with the Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement and held the position of Deputy Director of Administration. My duties with ALE included the supervision of the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons, North Carolina Boxing Authority, Professional Standards, and the Lottery Enforcement section. I have a total of 33 years of law enforcement experience with the majority of my experience in executive law enforcement management with hundreds of hours of specialized law enforcement training.

I have been very involved with my community serving on the Board of Directors of the Caldwell Rotary Club, Caldwell Senior Center and the Shelter Home of Caldwell County for women. I have also been active in Habitat for Humanity, Caldwell Council for Women, Repay, Foothills Drug Task Force, the Law and Order Committee for the North Carolina Sheriff's Association And the US Attorney's Office Committee for Rural Policing.

Caldwell County Rotary Club Rotarian of the Year 1994-95
Rotary District 7670 Governor's Award 1997
Governor Jim Hunt-award for Outstanding Volunteer Service 1998

Candidate Statement:

I am running for Sheriff of Caldwell County because I truly care about Caldwell County and the quality of life for our citizens. I can reduce the overall crime rate for Caldwell County which has increased the past three years in a row while the state crime rate fell 8.8% in 2009. I will work with problem neighborhoods to solve and reduce violent crime in their area. I will maintain an open door policy for all citizens and Sheriff's Office personnel. I offer my 33 years of law enforcement experience and record of professional, innovative and progressive management to the citizens of Caldwell County.

I can reduce the constant turnover of Sheriff's Office personnel. I recognize the importance and value of each employee. I will offer better training for personnel and develop a team that is accountable to the citizens of Caldwell County. All Sheriff's Office employees under my direction will treat the general public with fairness, common sense and integrity.

I will direct aggressive drug investigations that identify and successfully prosecute major drug rings that operate in and supply drugs to Caldwell County.

Warrants for arrest and civil process will be served without delay. Security in our courtrooms and schools will be a priority.
