Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

Born Hickory, NC, August 13th, 1935
Lived most of life in Catawba County. Attended school in Hickory and Catawba County. Graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College, Appalachian State University and earned School Administration certification from UNCG. Retired from NC Schools in 1989. Served in Peace Corps in Philippines training teachers. Worked in the College of Marshall Islands, and taught English as a second language in Haiti, Chunk, Samoa, and 3 years in Namibia. Mother of three, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of three.

I am interested in serving on the School Board of Catawba County because I believe in public education. I believe that the school system has served me and my family as well as many others over the years. I wish to see good education continued in the country. I believe with my experience and education that I can be of assistance to the system.

I have served two years and understand the workings of the Board. I am familiar with the staff and the goal/vision of the school system. Therefore, it is my belief that I am qualified and can serve the community and schools well.

I am committed to youth and the future of our nation. After serving other countries, I realize that it is time to serve those at home. In these difficult times we need to focus on meeting the needs of our own. Our school system has done remarkably well in the past and we must strive to see that our educational progress continues.
