| Candidate Statement:
My name is Greg McElveen, and I am running for election to continue serving on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board of Education. I have had the privilege of serving on the Board since December 2008, when I was appointed to fill a vacant position. After many years of volunteer work in the schools, I saw this as an opportunity to bring a new perspective to help our district meet our children's needs. I look forward to continuing to work with our community, our parents, our teachers, our staff, and our Board to help all of our children reach their full potential.
We have one of the best districts in the state, but there are areas we can do better.
- We can better engage, challenge, and equip all students to achieve their potential for excellence -- including students across the academic spectrum -- from currently struggling to gifted
- We can accelerate the closing of the minority achievement gap
- We can enhance responsiveness to children with special needs
- We can create an environment in which students love to learn and in which all feel welcome
- We can maximize parent and community participation
- We can recruit, retain, support, and reward excellent teachers and staff
- We must care deeply, challenge rigorously, and teach creatively.
- Finally, we must follow-up: We must make plans become reality
TOGETHER WE CAN HELP ALL OF OUR CHILDREN REACH THEIR POTENTIAL FOR EXCELLENCE!
Thank you for your support!
