Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

I am a native Charlottean.  I was born in Charlotte, NC, at Presbyterian Hospital.  I attended Villa Heights Elementary School.  At Hawthorne Junior High School, I received the Good Citizenship Award.   During my Senior year at Garinger High School, I was voted "Friendliest" and I was also voted Secretary of the Senior Class, First Semester.  I was married for 15 years.  After my divorce,  I raised my three children in Matthews, NC, as a single parent.   I worked for ALLTEL Carolina as the Administrative Assistant to the President.  I later worked for Faison Associates as the Administrative Assistant to the CEO.  I moved back to Charlotte, NC, University City area, and worked for Moore & Van Allen, PLLC as a Word Processor.  I am very proud of my family and I have three grandchildren who I spoil as much as my children will let me.

I am a Christian.  When growing up in the Villa Heights neighborhood, our family attended Allen Street Baptist, which later became Shamrock Drive Baptist Church and is now Grace Crossing Church.  I attended a church closer to my home when I lived in Matthews -- but, since I have moved back to Charlotte, I now attend Grace Crossing Church, www.gracecrossing.info.

Candidate Statement:

I am a candidate for the City Council - 4th District.

I want to represent the people of the 4th District and always have an "open ear" for any of their concerns regarding Charlotte, its successes and failures.  I will also have an "open ear" for any suggestions that might help Charlotte become a more cohesive city.  We are spread out in all directions.  There needs to be some form of "coming together to share information -- good and bad" periodically to discuss what is going on in each area = a "Charlotte Forum Representing North, South, East and West".

My motto is:  "If you don’t take care of what you have, you won't have anything to take care of."

One of my concerns at the moment, are the littered areas I see as I drive around in the University area.  Many times it seems that individuals toss out large bags of trash as they drive down ramps onto main roads.  Today I saw evidence of this on Mallard Creek Rd.  I cannot comprehend the thinking that would allow a person to carry out this act.

The "speeding" on our streets in the University area is out of control.

We need the "camera crew" again to photograph and fine the speeders and the people who litter.

I drove through my neighborhood several weeks ago.  Since many homes are in foreclosure, they are vacant and bushes are growing up too high around the doors and windows.  There should be a way to take care of situations like this.  It makes our neighborhoods unsafe and also adds to property value loss.

We all need to "come together" to solve some of the problems.
