Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):
Nicole E. Hudson is a candidate for Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board District 3.
Nicole is National Director of Community Outreach for DeVry University, a career-oriented university that provides undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of professional fields.
Nicole is an education professional with 14 years of experience at the state and national level. She began her career with the University of Phoenix in 1995 at the flagship campus in Phoenix, Arizona. Nicole advanced through the University of Phoenix system with positions in Las Vegas, Houston and Atlanta. In 2003, Nicole opened the North Carolina market for the University of Phoenix, and in 2005 was named Vice President, North Carolina. She oversaw a staff in 120 in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Fayetteville.
Nicole has been active in education on the national and state level for many years. She was appointed in 2003 by then Governor Easley to the State Board of Education and served on the Board's Business and Technology Alliance. She serves with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce on the Workforce Development Education Committee.
Nicole is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Charlotte and a 2005 graduate of Leadership North Carolina. She is a 2008 Fellow with the NC Institute for Political Leadership.
Nicole is an active member of University Park Baptist Church where she co-chairs the single-parent ministry. She is a regular volunteer with Citizens Schools, Crisis Assistance Ministry, and Urban League of Central Carolinas.
Nicole credits higher education with changing her life and improving the future for her own children. She started her higher education at a community college and went on to earn both a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.
Nicole is a single mother of two CMS children who attend First Ward Elementary School.

Candidate Statement:
I am running for Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board District 3. My experience, leadership skills and passion for lifelong learning have prepared me well for the school board. I brings a sense of urgency to the issues, knowing the Future is Now to build a bright tomorrow for all District 3 children, including my own.
I can successfully represent the families of District 3 on the CMS school board because:
As a single mother of two CMS children, I live the same struggles and triumphs as all families in District 3. Your children's and my children's future depends on what we do now. I am determined to make the future bright for all District 3 students, including my own kids.
As an experienced and skilled education professional, I know that the right resources make a difference in our children's education. I will use my knowledge of educational "best practices" to ensure that District 3 gets it's fair share of crucial resources so all District 3 students can excel.
As a concerned community citizen and taxpayer, I will bring a sense of urgency, accountability and innovation to CMS. We are facing unprecedented economic challenges. There is no money to waste and no time to waste as we educate our students to succeed in a competitive, global job market.
