| Candidate Statement:
I am seeking legislative office in state government because the Republican and Democrat parties have done such a poor job of managing the affairs of North Carolina. Government ought to be efficient, economical and minimally invasive. Today it is none of that. I have many proposals for practical and workable solutions to reduce the size and cost of our state government. A few:
- Except for emergencies, restrict the governor from signing into law any tax increases without a public referendum
- A review of all state bureaucracies and a reduction in size or outright deletion of those least necessary
- A 10% across the board decrease in statewide spending, savings to be used to reduce the income tax rates.
I support:
- Restricting the use of eminent domain to only those situations where the state can demonstrate overwhelming public need
- The Second Amendment
- School vouchers
- Individual rights over governmental restrictions on citizens
- The idea that government ought not do for a citizen what that citizen can do for himself.
Today North Carolina has the highest taxes of all the Mid-Atlantic States. Our confiscatory polices have caused many businesses to move elsewhere and companies are leery of relocating to North Carolina. The Democrats and Republicans seem bent on restricting our individual liberties and invade our privacy every way they can. The government in Raleigh is bloated and wasteful; Why would you vote for a failed status quo? The Democrats and Republicans are incapable of fixing this.
Vote for liberty and freedom. Vote Libertarian!
Respectfully,
Herbert M. Sobel
