Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate):

My husband and I first made our home in Currituck County in Point Harbor in 1982 when my husband took a position at Kitty Hawk Medical Center. It was in Point Harbor that our first child, a daughter, Melissa, was born. In 1987, we were able to open a private medical practice to serve the residents of Currituck County. This was a wonderful and hectic time for our family as we welcomed our second daughter, Tracy, just before the Barco medical office was opened.

Our two children are the product of the Currituck County School System. It was during their childhood and young adult life that I became actively involved in all aspects of their education and in the Currituck County Schools. I bring the same passion to ensuring an excellent education for every child in this school district that I did to ensuring the same for my children. I have served as a strong Board member for almost eight years fighting for improved access to Advanced Placement & College preparatory classes for every student, fighting for improved teaching & learning, & providing the resources our teachers need to produce successful students.

My re-election will ensure a continued emphasis on high expectations & preparing our students for our interconnected world. I have the passion, motivation, and proven determination to ensure our schools provide the best education for EVERY student.
