Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

Steven L. Williams is a native of Durham, North Carolina. He was raised in historic Walltown, one of Durham's oldest communities. Educated through the Durham Public School System, Steven graduated from Hillside High School in 1992. He attended Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina on a track and field scholarship and received a Bachelors of Science degree in International Business.  Currently, he is North and South American Logistics & Traffic Manager for a technology company headquartered in Raleigh.  

Steven's recent community involvement includes serving as Jr. Pee Wee Fundraiser for the Durham Eagles as they won the National Championship in 2003.  Additionally he served as 2008-09 assistant football coach for the Durham Titans, Assistant Athletic Director for the Durham Titans and Board Member, member of the Y.E.S. Initiative, and Member Monument of Faith Church.  Steven's passion for the "Bull City" and its citizens has inspired him to continue to serve the community as Mayor of Durham, North Carolina.

To the Voters and Supporters:

As a young boy growing up in Durham, I vividly remember all of the fun times:  playing basketball at Walltown Park and ping pong tournaments at the recreation center where my aunt Debbie worked. It was during those moments where life went by slowly due to the encouraging atmosphere. The recreation center was a safe place for me to release the pressures of school and life in a constructive manner. Now, there is limited youth involvement with community centers due to narrowing budget constraints.

I will challenge Durham Parks & Recreation to establish more family focused events.  I am committed to overseeing crime prevention programs that work. As Mayor, I will continually encourage local humanitarian organizations to focus their efforts toward decreasing homelessness. I would also identify ways to employ citizens of Durham by attracting industry and business to the city. 

Now is the time to the Community First for a better Durham.  I invite every citizen to join me in restoring our community by voting for Steven Williams on November 3.
