Candidate Biography (submitted by campaign):

Kira Howe, 25, was born in Palmdale, California, but returned to North Carolina with her parents as fast as she could. As a lifetime homeschooler, she was given great opportunity to nurture her own interests in literature, nature, and liberty, and continues her drive for liberty today. Kira is a writer and kennel manager at an animal hospital in Raleigh. She has lived in Granville County for more than 20 years.

Candidate Statement:

I was raised to believe that people have the right to live their lives free of government interference. Individual liberty and personal responsibility are the cornerstones of our nation and our state. As a North Carolina Senator, it will be my goal to foster a government that respects individual rights.

While in the legislature, I will focus on four priorities:

  1. Putting parents in charge of their children's education
  2. Ending the practice of forced annexation and strictly limiting the use of eminent domain
  3. Ending the practice of "corporate welfare," the policy of enticing big business to the state with costly tax incentives
  4. Eliminating the use of the death penalty in North Carolina

We need a government that protects individual rights and leaves people free to live their lives as they see fit, as long as they do not harm another. I will strive to make the NC General Assembly that kind of government.
